Until only recently, both the flexographic washout solvents and the means of recycling those solvents, which have been available to the industry, have been less than eco-friendly. In 2006, NuPro earned the EPA's Presidential Green Chemistry Challenge Small Business Award for its development of Nutre Clean XP - the industry's first environmentally safe washout chemistry - in conjunction with the Cold Reclamation System (CRS) - the safer, more economical, and environmentally conscious method of reclaiming flexographic washout solvent. The Presidential Green Chemistry Challenge is an EPA sponsored event, in which research, development, and the implementation of innovative 'green' technologies are the goal. The EPA qualifies green technologies as those that constitute a reduction in or elimination of the use or generation of hazardous materials and that accomplish pollution prevention in a scientifically sound and cost-effective manner. NuPro received this award because the EPA recognizes these synergistic technologies as an outstanding example of novel technologies that accomplish pollution prevention through source reduction and that have broad application in industry. The recognition that NuPro garnered for its accomplishments is truly a step forward for the entire flexographic industry, in that it will aid all of our efforts to move towards greater environmental consciousness.
